What is an Atelier?

“Atelier” is simply the French word for “studio.” It is a place where European artists would train during the 19th century in order to master realistic drawing and painting skills. Today, the term “atelier” refers to specialty art schools that use skills-based, historically proven techniques to teach students to create representational art.  Some people refer to this classical method of teaching as the "atelier method."  As students advance in skill level using these methods, they will notice an increase in accuracy (proportion, line, and form) when creating representational art.

How do I start?
